Hepalog® was designed by Electronic Clincal Research Technology in an effort that included Hepatologists, medical programmers, clinicians, and research site coordinators. The program was designed to address the growing need to assimilate data on what has become a catastrophic infection affecting the peoples in every country in the world. In the case of Hepalog, considerations were given to all aspects of data collection, with special attention being given to the actual data collection process.

The Current State of Hepatitis C Since the identification of the Hepatitis C Virus in 1992, there are currently an estimated 14 million domestic cases and 170 million cases worldwide. In conjunction with co-infections such as HIV, affecting the liver, the numbers of diagnosed and yet diagnosed cases and the prognosis with limited treatment options make this disease a staggering health concern worldwide, causing over 10,000 deaths per year. There are currently over 43 sub-genotypes identified, with new sub-sets identified each year. The most prevalent genotype is 1a which is the least responsive to currently available treatment options.
